For the past few days my father and I have been driving across the United States from Long Island, NY to San Francisco, CA.
The first day we made it to Cincinnati, Ohio. If anyone is considering doing the trip, take it from me, driving on an interstate is both boring and ‘tiring’; although I think the ‘tiring’ has more to do with being so bored you start to get tired. Not much of interest along the way, just lots of cars.
The second day we made it from Cincinnati to Jefferson City, Missouri, which I didn’t know is the capital of Missouri. In my ignorance I assumed St Louis was the capital. Here we had a great meal and beer at Paddy Malones Irish Pub. There was some live music which kept the mood up. Definitely recommend stopping by this local watering hole if you’re in the area. One of the locals actually leaves his reading glasses above the bar for reading his tab… never seen that before, but so practical!
Tonight we’re in Dodge City, Kansas, which truly comes across as a one road town, despite being home to approximately 30,000. Coming into Dodge City, there was a farm of wind power turbines – very interesting to see up close. Had a great dinner at Ham’s Bar and Grill; as my dad put it… “I haven’t had a steak that good in a really, really long time.” It was perfectly cooked, and incredibly tender and juicy. So far probably the best meal on the trip. Well worth the stop!
More to come later as more states get checked off the list…
