The Canadian Rockies up close

June 23rd, 2008 · No Comments · Travel

Some of todays best trips include “non-traditional” venues and activities. Some of them might include eco-lodging (environmentally sound), adventure travel, or working vacations.

The Royal Canadian Pacific rail is one such trip offering. Royal Canadian Pacific offers a 6 day trip through the Canadian Rockies where you will travel West from Calgary past Banff and Lake Louise, across the Continental Divide to Kicking Horse River Valley, and then back East through the Alberta prairie lands.

Banff will offer many historical sites, and the stop at Lake Louise involves a hike with a local naturalist who will walk you through all the natural sights you see along the way.

Once you get to Kicking Horse River Valley, you will be taken up to the summit of Eagle’s Eye Mountain for breakfast. Don’t worry, you don’t have to walk up, there’s a gondola to ferry you up and down the mountain!

Some might worry about sleeping on the trains at night; will they be comfortable, will there be adequate amenities (bathrooms, etc)? In short, yes. All cabins have en suite showers, sinks, and latrines (toilets).

If you haven’t seen the Rockies before, and want to cover a lot of ground, this is a great way to go!
